As mobile, wearable and IoT devices pervade our society, there is increasing interest in developing smart environments that can support all kinds of people to learn and engage in intellectual activities under various contexts. There are also increasing opportunities of work and social participation through computer-augmented environments such as crowdsourcing and sharing economy platforms.

This symposium seeks to identify challenges for enabling the future environments in which diverse elements can be weaved together in flexible manners to cope with difficult societal challenges. What can play a pivotal role in realizing such environments would be the potential to enhance and integrate learning, activities, and contexts of people at all ages, including the expanding population of elderly people, by exploiting digital technologies.
