Article 1
Research Encouragement Award is given to budding scientists or engineers recognized competent and promising on the academic discipline or practical technology of information processing.

Article 2
Candidates for the award are selected among presenters in the Joint Convention of Kyushu Branch of the Institute of Electronics, Information Processing (hereinafter referred to as the Joint Convention), the Hinokuni - Land of Fire - Information Processing Symposium and/or Kyushu Young Researchers Seminars, who are applicable to the following points:
- 1.being under the age of 36 on the closest first of April after the presentation performed by the presenter
- 2.having signed up as a presenter at the registration of the presentation session before performing the presentation
- 3.having no previous record of being given this award
- 4.being a member or of Kyushu Branch of the Information Processing Society of Japan at the time of the presentation to be assessed. An application to the Branch pending at the presentation is deemed eligible for the selection.

Article 3
Award recipients are to be selected immediately following the Joint Convention, the Hinokuni - Land of Fire - Information Processing Symposium and/or Kyushu Young Researchers Seminars.
- Article 4Academic papers to be assessed for the Research Encouragement Award are to be selected from the ones presented in respective occasions as follows: five from the Joint Convention, five from the Hinokuni - Land of Fire - Information Processing Symposium and one from Kyushu Young Researchers Seminars.
- Article 5The award recipients will be conferred a certificate of commendation and a medal of commendation.
- Article 6The selection board will be composed of the branch officers, the selection board will be headed by the branch chairman.
